Our client is America’s premier laboratory for particle physics and accelerator research, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. We support discovery science experiments in Illinois and at locations around the world, including deep underground mines in South Dakota and Canada, mountaintops in Arizona and Chile, and the South Pole. This position supports the Computing function at the lab, which includes both the Core Computing Division, the IT arm of Fermilab, and the Scientific Computing Division, which provides computing services to our experiments. The lab Core Computing Division is seeking a Communications Associate. Under general supervision, this position plans and performs scientific IT and computing project communications from start to finish, develops technical documentation and coordinates outreach activities within the core and scientific areas of Computing.
Write, edit, review and organize communications related to the services, projects and research activities provided or conducted by Computing for the laboratory community.
Write, edit and lay out web-based internal monthly newsletter.
Update web-based content on various platforms including WordPress and SharePoint
Develop and oversee execution of communication plans for Computing Sector projects and activities.
Complete operational tasks associated with communications and knowledge management.
Capture, develop and check accuracy of information by researching and interviewing subject matter experts and by observing activities, processes and demonstrations.
May write occasional articles about Computing activities for the laboratory community.
May help coordinate and/or produce content for outreach activities.
We Are Looking For:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism or related subject area.
1-2 years of published writing experience or writing or 2 to 3 years of proficient college writing experience.
Demonstrated experience presenting with scientific and technical staff.
Ability to research, interview, write and edit technological and scientific communication
Interest in technology and science writing and a passion for learning new subjects.
Skill in the use of computers and standard software as well as the ability to navigate and use the internet.
Ability to balance challenging priorities and work on multiple projects simultaneously
The ability to do basic video editing and/or graphic design is a plus.
