Regional Settlement Manager

This position has overall responsibility for all Grand Rapids region settlement functions. The position is responsible for ensuring high quality accurate and compliant settlement functions. Additionally, the Settlement Manager must ensure all company policies and procedures are followed along with State and Federal settlement laws. The position is responsible for ensuring clients needs are met in a manner which supports the company’s focus  which is compliant based customer satisfaction. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities- While not a comprehensive list of all duties and responsibilities the successful Regional Settlement manager will be proficient in the areas listed below.

  • Manage all activities of the settlement team. Plan, schedule and control all aspects of the settlement process. Skillfully utilizes the resources of the team

  •  Implement procedures and processes in support of  company strategic goals

  • Manage expenses as compared to annual budget. 

  • Identify, hire, train and develop settlement employees.

  • Formally evaluate all subordinate team members no less frequently than annually.

  • Consistently review processes and procedures to assure customer satisfaction, efficiency and compliance.

  • Monitor escrow account confirming the account and all files are balanced.

  • Monitor and understand state and federal regulations affecting the title industry.

  • Help create, implement and monitor policies and procedures which ensure the company is compliant with state and federal regulations affecting the title industry.

  • Implement process and procedures to protect the company against financial loss (embezzlement and errors), comply with state, federal and underwriter rules/ regulations and maximize efficiency.

  • Process, perform and disburse orders and closings when necessary. 

  • Establish a collaborative work environment, build rapport with entire team (subordinates, senior mgt and customers)

  • Develop relationships with customers, monitor their level of satisfaction and take necessary action as problems or issues arise. 

  • Work hand-in hand with the regional manager for the real estate company to ensure we are consistently supporting the values of the region.

  • Help identify, approach and secure business from sources outside the companies owned by our mutual owner.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Must be (or be able to become within 90 days) a Notary Public

  • Must hold a valid Michigan and Indiana license in the area of title insurance (or be able to obtain said license within 90 days of employment).

  • Must hold a valid Michigan drivers license.

  • Must have 2+ years settlement experience.

  •   Poses extensive knowledge of all settlement functions including processing, closing, disbursing and policy issuance.

  • Have solid, working knowledge of title insurance products, coverage and exceptions.

  • Optimistically motive the team.

  • Ability to work under pressure while displaying a calm, positive attitude.

  • Have comprehensive understanding of overall work-flow, with a concentration on continued process/efficiency improvement.

  • Ability to analyze and understand financial statements. 

  • Ability to manage to a profit objective.

  • Consistently and routinely review file reconciliation and immediately address any issues.

  • Implement reporting system to communicate key financial objectives (capture rate, orders/closings and revenue by office)

  • Be recognized as an efficient, skilled problem solver 

  • Anticipate client needs and position the company to satisfy those needs.

  • Ensure highest level of customer service.

  • Must poses excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Be recognized as a collaborative leader. Be approachable and open to others ideas. Be skillful, discrete and tactful when questioning another’s ideas/actions or addressing issues and problems.

  • Communicate clearly (orally and in writing) make good first impression, clearly present facts and ideas.

  • When presenting problems or challenges also present several potential solutions with associated pros and cons. 

  •  Professional attitude, enthusiastically participate in management meetings and business development sessions.

  • Other duties as assigned


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree Preferred.

  • Prior supervisory experience in the title insurance/settlement industry
